“Drink your tea slowly and reverently as if it is the axis upon which the world earth revolves — slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.” ~ Thay
To me, this quote embodies the doula because the lowly kettle and cup play a humble but starring role in what I do. And actually, often that doing is not actively doing much at all.
That first cup of tea we share is a welcoming; where you and I get to know each other. That warm liquid, cupped in stoneware or china is supporting a bond being formed.
The many cups that follow hold space for your sadness, your joy, your longing, your fear, your hope, your anger, your laughter and more.
The heat warms and soothes.
It slows, calms, connects
And brings us home.
